Where to go and what to see

![]() Use your time in Athens and visit the historic center, where Acropolis is located. Walk around the Plaka and Monastiraki area (Metro Statiosn: Acropoli, Syntagma, Monastiraki). There are plenty of cafes, taverns on affordable prices! Tip: a lot of taverns have a roof terrace with a very nice view to the Acropolis. View of the Acropolis at night is rewarding… ![]() Our newest national sport in Greece is “Drinking Coffee” and we have mastered the coffee making style…So is a must to try the Greek style coffee…Order a Freddo (is cold Espresso with crushed ice) or Freddo Cappucino (same recipe with milk foam). Sugar is added when the coffee is being prepared, so don’t be bothered when the waiter asks you how much sugar you want. Just say, less, medium or sweet. I drink it with medium sugar. ![]() Another type of coffee you might want to try is Frape. Served also cold and you need to say as before if you want sugar or milk in it. Greeks enjoy their coffee for long time…An hour normally is not enough. For those who want also some cultural activities, the new Acropolis Museum is highly recommended. Admission ticket is 5 Euros. Museum is closed only on Mondays http://www.theacropolismuseum.gr/en Needless to say that a visit to the Acropolis itself and the Temple of Hephaestus worth the money. Those who still have their university id (school IDs for the kids), they get reduced tickets (or even free of charge) for visit in the Acropolis and the temple of Hephaestus. For the hard core funs of ancient ruins, I recommend also the Temple of Poseidon…However this is on the very south of Attika. Nevertheless, maybe you want to combine it with a visit to one of the close by beaches over there….Of course the more south you go, the better beaches you have…See beaches section. ![]() Close by beaches Of course Athens is more famous for Acropolis and co, but there are a few beaches around. However, the good ones are a bit south of Attika and would require a car rental or spending some time on the bus. Weekends are normally pretty busy, especially those that are close to the city. Some of them are organized beaches with bars etc, which though have an entrance fee. An overview of the beaches around you can see in the below link http://www.greeka.com/attica/athens/athens-beaches.htm Taking the party location as starting point, here are some beaches from nearest to more distant. Voula Beach (4 Km) Kavouri ( 8 Km – free access) Vouliagmeni Beach (Free access) South Coast Resort (fee 6 Euros) Varkiza Beach (13 Km Free access) Lagonisi (20 Km Free access) Saronida (26 Km Free access) Anavyssos (30 Km Free access) Other Links: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g189400-Athens_Attica-Vacations.html http://www.athens24.com/index.html http://www.thisisathens.org/ ... link (0 Kommentare) ... comment |
